This stunning authentic Japanese Satsuma ware earthenware vase, decorated with a traditional scene of Buddhist deities. Likely produced during the late Meiji to early Taisho period (circa 1910s–1920s) as a decorative export item features intricate and colorful handpainted illustrations, making it a unique addition to your home decor. The vintage feel combined with its artistic design adds character to any setting. Ideal for collectors or as a standout centerpiece. Key Artistic Features Fine Crackle Glaze: The vase features a classic cream-colored or ivory background covered in fine crazing (crackle lines), which is the signature baseline characteristic of authentic Satsuma pottery. The Iconography: The main painted panel depicts Kannon Bodhisattva (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, identifiable by her golden halo or mandorla) surrounded by holy figures, commonly known as Rakan (disciples of Buddha or Immortals). Moriage Decoration: The design is accented with thick, raised enamel paints and gold gilding. This texturing technique, called moriage, gives the figures and swirls a striking 3D tactile effect.
